Our Doctors

Mike Schardein, DVM

Dr. SchardeinAs a veterinarian as well as managing partner, Dr. Schardein has been treating pets at St. Matthews Animal Clinic since 2000. He is deeply rooted in the community having attended high school at St. Xavier and has earned a B.A. and an M.S. in biology at the University of Louisville. He received his degree in Veterinary Medicine from Auburn University and returned to Louisville to start his career helping animals. He spends his free time with his wife, Becky, and his two pets. His dog, Harri, is a regular at the clinic while his cat, Tom, holds down the fort at home. He also found time to run the 2009 Leukemia & Lymphoma marathon in 2009, raising money for an important cause. It’s obvious to anyone who knows Dr. Schardein that he enjoys animals, people and science. His career in veterinary medicine allows him to work with all three.

Burhl Bond, DVM

Dr. BondBorn and raised here in Louisville, Dr. Bond has been treating pets at St. Matthews Animal Clinic since 1975. He prepared for his veterinary career at the University of Kentucky and graduated from Auburn University as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. When he’s not at the clinic, he's working on his farm with the help of his Border collie, Abby, who herds 150 head of Angus cows. Also there to pitch in around the farm are his three domestic shorthair cats, Wildcat, Georgie and Rosebud. A busy doctor and farmer, he also finds time for volleyball, canoeing, and camping. Why is he a veterinarian? "I’ve owned pets and farm animals all my life, and I couldn’t imagine doing anything else" says Dr. Bond.

 

Robyn Cook, DVM

Dr. CookDr. Cook couldn’t deny her love of animals even after graduating from Furman University with an accounting degree. After working as an accountant, she decided to pursue her dream of becoming a veterinarian. She came to St. Matthews Animal Clinic in 2002 after earning her veterinary degree at Auburn University. She shares her home with her husband, Brian, and her daughter, Anna, born July of 2006. Rounding out the Cook household are Abby, a Redbone coonhound, two Himalayan cats, Beau and Callie, and two domestic shorthair cats, Lydia and Linus.

Meredith Hope, DVM

Dr. HopeA native of Louisville, Dr. Hope joined the St. Matthews Animal Clinic team in 2006. She is an accomplished scuba diver and gardener with a lifelong love of animals. Her desire to spend her life surrounded by pets led her to study at Western Kentucky University and Auburn University. Her days at the clinic are busy treating the pets of St. Matthews as well as her own beloved pets. She has two dogs, Brandy and Caesar, and a cat named Alex.
